Not so much the bolt rifles or shotguns, although those will be next, But anything that was semi-auto, even the $1500 BAR, gone. I am not really into the tactical stuff so it did not alarm me much. I was a little worried I could not find any Glock Magazines to pick up, however. After all that to take in i was relived to see a lot of the hunting ammo was not horded. So after all I had no problem getting my Black Cloud for the following day; however, I fear that will not last. It is responsible sportsman and shooting enthusiasts that are going to pay for the actions of a few.
On to the results of the Black Cloud I purchased. Last Thursday I went out and decided to try out my new Old Squaw decoys. They are made by Sport Plast which come from Italy. I wanted to buy the Old Squaw Decoys from Quack, a Rhode Island manufacturer, but i was short on funds. As these plastic decoys get shot up i will replace them with Quack for sure. I put the dozen out and sat back. I had the usual mergansers and buffleheads come in, but i was waiting on the Old Squaw. After about 30 min of waiting in more mild windless conditions one locked up on my decoys and dropped right in, and I was able to take a beautiful Old Squaw Drake. That would be the only one to come in for the day. There was a bunch of OS about .5 mile away balled up feeding on an oyster bed, so i will go there next time. I have found it is way more important to be on the "X" than what decoys you use. I did have a good time enjoying the last of the nice weather and sipping coffee. A big grey seal even came close to the boat to check it out. Some more Mergansers flew in and out and not much else. I was treated to the sound of Golden Eyes coming in. For those of you that don't know they make a whistling noise when they fly. It sounds like a loose tractor belt coming in, and one did come in. One shot of Federal Black Cloud and I was giving him a ride in the boat. As I was going to pack it in for the day a bird flew over my boat from behind me. I was going to write it off as seagull, but I looked and saw a Brant. The Black Cloud took care of him as well. I am very happy I was able to get ammo and get out and hunt. The wind has been blowing since Thursday and ammo is getting harder to find.
who knew, dead birds sure look pretty
ReplyDeleteBlake, Golden Eyes and Old Squaw are awesome looking ducks
DeleteHey Savage...waiting for the pictures of the birds being served.
ReplyDeleteEd, I was going to do something like that, but i just cooked them up. Next time i will
DeleteThings are going to get tough.
ReplyDeleteLets hope cool heads prevail.
Brk Trt, I don't know what to say other than what you stated. I really don't want to be punished with a 50% ammo tax to go Duck or squirrel hunting.
