Hurricane Irene has come and gone. In her wake a trail of moderate destruction was visible. All day Friday and Saturday people were out preparing for the worst and praying for the best. I am very sorry for those people that lost their homes in low coastal areas. I hope their family is safe now. Many people pulled their boats out of the water, which was a good idea. Others, pulled their boats into Stamford Harbor's East branch to be protected by the Hurricane Barrier, which the Army Corps of Engineers closed Saturday night. Sorry, i don't have crazy cool pics to share of the storm. I was at work for most of it and had no time for pics, even though, i saw a good amount of flooding.
During the last few days at work i did have some time to think about what was going on. Hurricane Irene was a real wake-up-call for me. I have spent the last 48 hours with out electric. I will say that no electric for a few days is not the end of the world. I only lost the stuff on my freezer door and the contents of the fridge. My wife, dog, and myself are safe and we still have our place so i am not that upset. I am upset about the loss of my Stew Lenard's Ice cream, but even that can and will be replaced. 48 hours was nothing more than an inconvenience, But.................... What if the power was not going to come back on for a very long time? Did i have a plan? Did i have and Urban Survival Kit? I am sad to say "no". (I did have a flash light and a .357mag). Here is my wake up call! My new project is to make a disaster plan for my family, and get a kit ready. I will be developing this go too bag over the next few days and i will break it down into sections.
I hope all of you made it through the storm if you were effected by it. I also want to apologize for not reading through your blog posts due to the power outage. I know you guys put a lot of time into it.

Here is one of my favorite up close and personal shots. It was taken two years ago in February on a clam digging outing.

Loads of Fun
During the last thirty days the weather has been very much summer like. Every day tops out in the mid to upper 80's. There is a thunder storm here and there, but for the most part the weather has been very stable. As a direct result the water clarity has been A+! Also, the fishing continues to be very predictable. The fish are feeding in the same areas every morning, for about two hours.

Repairs
damage to the bottom of the radiator causing the leak. |
My 04 Dodge Dakota has been at the heart of all our adventures for a long time. Now she is broken into with 102,000 miles. I want to keep this truck for a long time. When i noticed the radiator leaking last week i got really nervous. Luckily Savage Ed is in the automotive repair business and he got me a radiator. The new one went in with out too much of a fuss. For now the truck is running good and i can only hope it stays that way for a while. I will take the hits as they come. Its back to normal on the automotive front for now. Thanks to Ed for Knowing how to swap out a Radiator and saving me a Chit load of money.
Radiator out |
Second, i needed a new coffee mug. My wife insisted on a mug with flowers on it. Listen i am not getting down on her or the flowered mugs, but i am not drinking coffee out of a flowered mug. I need something a little more manly. The other day i was surfing the web looking for a spare magazine for a savage rifle i had. I found it and placed an order. Then i saw a button on the website that read "other". Low and Behold i found a coffee mug that reads Savage Arms. So now i can sip coffee out of a more manly mug.
We have some more fishing coming up soon. The fishing seems to be pretty good so i hope to have some cool adventures to report on Friday.
