Beating the Heat

Last night  was bad enough, the low was only 68 and by the time I got out of work at 7am it was in the 70's.  Highs for the day were in the miserable 90's; however, I slept right through it.  I planned ahead and had the boat behind the truck when i pulled into work last night.  I figured i would need some cool fresh air after spending a warm sticky night at the sewage treatment plant, so when the Steam Whistle blew at 7am I was headed for the ramp which, by the way, is a stones throw from work.  The plan was really simple:

The Connecticut Walk Book West

The Book of Books!

Recently, I came across the Connecticut Forest and Park Association's Walk Book West.  The book highlights all the Blue Blazed hiking trails in the western part of the state.  For those of you living east of the Connecticut River they have an Eastern Addition.  I am very Pleased with the book.  Each trail as a detailed highlight description, mileage markers, and map.  During this past week I had some time off from work.  The winds out of the east kept me off the water so I simply opened the Walk Book and hit the trail.  I was able to do most of the Saugatuck Valley Trail and the Whole Lillianonah Trail.  The Book is a essential to people looking for more from the outdoors. I have gained a lot through this book out of two short hikes.   Here is a Hiking Video and some pictures from my Lillinonah Trail

Oh No More Youtube?

You bet.  Today the east winds kept me off the water, so i decided to go on a day hike.  I chose the Saugatuck Valley Trail which is located on water shed property in the towns of Weston and Redding.  What a great trail!  Here you go Saugatuck Valley Trail Hike

The Aspetuck Valley Trail

Today I decided to tackle the Aspetuck Valley Trail located in the towns of Redding and Newtown Connecticut.  I have been doing a lot of hiking recently because i want to explore something new and get some exercise.  Today's hike Started at good'ol Hunting to State Park  where I picked up the Aspetuck Trail, and followed it all the way down to Good Ridge Road in Redding Connecticut.  The hike was a to and back with a one way distance of 5.5 miles for a total length of 11 miles.  I didn't think i was going to pull it off.

Macedonia Brook State Park

Macedonia Brook State Park has got to be one of Connecticut's best parks.  The park is the largest in Connecticut at an expansive 2300 acres.  A dirt road runs through the center of the park where the park office is located.  A great looking trout stream also runs along the road and is managed as a wild trout only river.  The 51 tent campsites are found along the river.  The river and dirt road is flanked on each side by ridges.  These ridges are home to some of the best hiking trails in the state.
