Macedonia Brook State Park

Macedonia Brook State Park has got to be one of Connecticut's best parks.  The park is the largest in Connecticut at an expansive 2300 acres.  A dirt road runs through the center of the park where the park office is located.  A great looking trout stream also runs along the road and is managed as a wild trout only river.  The 51 tent campsites are found along the river.  The river and dirt road is flanked on each side by ridges.  These ridges are home to some of the best hiking trails in the state.
Today I decided to hit the Blue Blazed hiking trail.  The total length of the trail is 6.7 miles and traverse some of the most interesting terrain in Connecticut.  Today's conditions could not have been better.  It was about 70 degrees, sunny, and a nice breeze out of the east.  I also times the blooming of the mountain laurels.  These white flowers lined the trail all the way to the Cobble Mountain Summit.  Cobble Mountain is only 1,350ft, but it is an hour of up hill hiking to get there from the southerly parking area.  Once up there the views to the west are spectacular.  I was also treated to some very nice walking along the Macedonia Brook.  I also had to climb down rock scrambles.  The trip took me every bit of 4 hours.  I stopped once to check my map and eat some gold fish.

I think gold fish is the official food of all outdoors enthusiasts.
I was taking the break along the Macedonia Brook at the north end of the park.  I used the opportunity to refill my water supply using my Katadyn hiker water filter.  Today was the second chance i have had to use it and i am still not sick!  It works!  It was hard to get up from a little rest but i did.  It was not long until i came across a Red F  traveling on the trail.

I am headed back to this place to hike the loop again, camp out, and catch some wild fish.  I was impressed to say the least.  The grounds keepers here kept the place unbelievably pristine and the trails were all marked well.  My advise is to visit this place before you die.  It was the right way to end a vacation.

  2. Blake, that grub is as thick as a cigar and about 3 inches long. Survior Man could live off it for over a week.

    1. I did take stream shots, but they did not come out well at all. The river is small, but it looks very healthy.
