Diamond Jigging

I was invited to head out after work and do some diamond jigging on the reefs.  Well of course I went!  I met Jan D. and Grady White Tom to head out on his Grady.  The Boat is a 23 footer with a lot of beam and lots of power.  The boat has a Yamaha 350 V8 outboard.  What and engine!  Conditions could not have been better.  We all had a great time fishing for a few hours after work. We got into a few blues feeding in 50 Feet of Water.  From the bluefish puke in the water we determined the fish were feeding of small herring.  The action should really heat up in the next few weeks.   Thanks Tommy.

Dense Fog Advisory

Last night I found myself in NYC with my wife to meet up with some friends for dinner and drinks.  We had a great time, but i was wanting to get out of there as soon as possible.   A Scotch on the Rocks was 16 bucks and a Grilled Cheese with tomato soup was 12.  Not to mention your personal space is violated constantly just walking down the street. I am not a big city person, even though, i live in a city.  We did have a great time and I was happy to meet some really cool new people.  My wife and I got on the train headed back to CT around 11.  Once we departed Grand Central Terminal it was announced the train was a local, NNNNNOOOOOOO!  For those of you who don't know there are two Metro North Trains that leave Grand Central.  The local, which at every station, and the express which stops at 125th street and Stamford.  It took us an hour to get home on the train.  At least the mood on the train was good everyone was coming home from the ball game with big smiles and continuing the party on the train.
Even though i like the people my wife and I know in New York it was good to be home and exercise my freedoms like Putting on My Ruger LCR to go walk the dog.  I also just liked the fact I did not have to push and pull my way down the side walk.  On my walk with the dog i noticed a fog starting to build, so it was of no surprise that when i woke up in the morning i could not see across the street.  I got up, made coffee, and was out the door.  Fishing in the fog is my favorite way to fish.  I find the action is great and the sun is not beating down on you.  I also get the feeling of privacy, however, that may not be the case.  As I was leaving the Ramp this was my view, and where i love to be.
Fish was pretty good.  The water temps ave come down several degrees and are dropping into the 60's.  I have not seen 68 degree water since June so i am sure the fish are happy about it.  I hit the rock piles since the tide was low and worked several of them with popper flies and flat wings.  There is a ton of small fish around in the 16 inch range.  They are small, but they are plentiful.  It is reassuring to see them since they are the next generation.  There is a lot of bait in the water and i think they are silver sides so if they stick around fishing should remain good.   We have a cold snap coming in next week during my camping trip to New Hampshire.  I am sure the cold snap will get these fish moving.  I better get the Diamond Jigs ready.
