Very Frusterating

Recently I acquired a Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle.  I have been waiting to take it to the range and give it a try.  The weather has been cold but there were a few nice days.  The main reason I have not been to the range is because I have not been able to find ammo!  Yeah!  I can't find .308.  Internet is just about out, walmart not a chance, local gun shops are empty.  I really like the idea of buying guns chambered in normal loadings like; .308, .30-06, .30-30, .22lr, and so on.  Usually you can find these cartridges anywhere; however, with recent political noise on guns this is not the case.

The Plan is to take the rifle to the range with 3-5 types of ammo.  I am going to get less expensive ammo for it  like Remington core-lokt, Winchester Super-X, Federal Fusion, and so on.  I have killed quite a few deer with these three ammo choices and I have not had a problem.  I feel the very philosophy behind the scout rifle is one of affordability.  If ammo listed above can shoot well out of my rifle then I am going to stick with it.    When ammo starts coming available I will  Load Up, and see what works well.

  1. My mother collects short/small rifles, these are "Camp Guns" though.

Does yours have the Mauser action?

    1. Yes, It is a Built on the Ruger M77 action which for all intensive purposes is a Mauser. This gun would make a great gun for a long hike in hunt.

  2. The government is buying up all the ammo to use ON US. When they think they have enough, maybe we'll see ammo in the stores again.

Had to try the eighth time to get a combo that I could read on your word verification. Wish you'd get rid of that disgrace of a system.

  3. I will get rid of the word verification system since i agree they suck. As for the current administration buying up massive amounts of ammo for domestic use. I believe it is our fault for voting them in.

  4. "WE" collectively as a nation, yes, but I doubt if many folks reading your blog or mine voted for the closet muslim.

    1. You can never underestimate the ignorance of the american people. I believe today people are going through hard times and they just want the government to deal with it. to do that you need to give them more power. Such thinking is not american. I will be the one to get myself in and out of trouble.

  5. Incidentally, WITHOUT word verification, you'll need to do away with the anonymous option and personally moderate your comments to keep out the spam. It's not nearly as much trouble as it sounds, though.

  6. Yep, witnessed the same thing. You can get 20 and 12 gauge shells, but forget about anything in a hand gun, or for that matter, even a 22.

    1. JGR, I have found some .308 but it is the real expensive stuff. Don't get me wrong Nosler bullets on a premium load are awesome, but i don't want to drop 45 bucks for 20. Look on line cabelas has no .22 rimfire ammo in stock.
