I have been home sick today and i google searched "duck hunting in CT".  One of the hits that came up was a post that was made by a channel 8 news reporter.  The skinny on it is he was concerned about the dwindling numbers of duck hunters in the state.  After reading the post i then scrolled through the endless amount of comments from viewers.  What disturbed me the most was people actually thought that this guy was doing something wrong!  Here is how i see it:  I feel i have no right hindering with your pursuits, and i recognize your god given right to have an opinion; however, It is just as equally wrong for you to hinder my pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.   I am new to sea ducking and goose hunting and i have to say, i really enjoy it.   Read it for yourselves, i think this will even scare you a little.

  1. I read it and the comments and I just can't take the waste coming out of all those folks trying to preach to me about hunting or condemning me for my actions or believes. Just because someone doesn't understand it or doesn't believe in it or feels bad for the poor cute little animals, I must be wrong. If it wasn't for hunting and fishing we'd all be dead by now.

I'm new to duck hunting in a sense of hunting over decoys but not really new to shooting ducks. Most of my duck hunting in the past has been jump shooting. It really is a great experience and I'm glad I took the time to learn about duck hutning and those that defend and work for the well being of the ducks.

Just remember, sportsmen and Sportswomen have done more for wildlife conservation and species survival than any other single group present and past so take pride in doing what you do. Maybe we should start charging those that don't hunt for our contributions that have been made over the years. :)

    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Passinthru, i like your idea of charging the non hunting public for our contributions. I do know one guy who does not hunt but is a big bird watcher and he buys a duck stamps, because it helps out with wetland conservation. So i guess he gets it. Jump shooting is a lot of fun. Last winter we killed our Black Ducks by jump shooting on the exposed sand bars and reefs.

  3. Even Thomas Jefferson warned about people who'd been too long from the land. Loons aren't just on the lakes any more. Most are to be found walking city streets.
