Last night severe thunderstorms rolled through much of CT. I think the only part of the state left out was the Fair Field County area. I was able to hook up the boat at 4am and pick up Jan D. with out having to worry about impending doom via a lightning strike. We hit the Ramp at 5 and quickly got the boat wet. I was very excited about today's trip. I wait for this tide all year; first week in June, high tide, day break. When this comes together i advise any one to get out and slay!
Upon arriving at our Number one spot , Jan laid out a cast and scored the first fish on a Slug-O! I opted for my 9wt with a floating line and a deer hair slider. Once the cast was made it did not take long for a fish to eat it. Great! double header right off the bat! I was worried this was the "kiss of death" but not today! The hits kept coming. We landed fish from 16 inches up to 32 inches. Total we got 15-20 fish. As the sun got higher the fish slowed up and would only follow our offerings.
Today was one of the days that i will remember for a while. We had great action with bass on top water. They attacked Slug-O's or one of my flies, we had a great time. I don't think I could be in a better mood. First, I was able to catch a legal bass on a fly I tied, and bring it home for one heck of a meal. Second, I was able to fish with a great friend. Third, We beat the heat!(It will be near 100 today in NYC 30 min away). Fourth, I am able to come home and take a nap before i go to work! Does not get much better than that! Thank god the weather held out.
